ELNORA’S BIBLE STUDY WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS, Colossians 3, Saturday, November 22, 2025
Context for Chapter 3
Prior chapters in Colossians
emphasized the supremacy of Jesus, and the inferiority of worldly teachings.
Paul's explanation of Christ as the ultimate authority, and the only source of
truth, is key to understanding the difference between godly wisdom and worldly
deceptions. In this chapter, Paul will apply those earlier ideas using
practical instructions. This application runs through the beginning of chapter
4, which will end with various news about fellow Christian ministers.

1. Living the New Life, Part 1, Verses 1-10, GROUP DISCUSSION
1Since
you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities
of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the
things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to
this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And
when Christ, who is your[a] life, is revealed
to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. 5 So put
to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a
greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of
these sins, the anger of God is coming.[b] 7 You used to do
these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But
now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and
dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you
have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put
on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become
like him.

2. Living the New Life, Part 2, Verses 11-17, CHARLES
11 In this
new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile,[c] circumcised or
uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized,[d] slave, or free.
Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. 12 Since
God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with
tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance
for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord
forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all,
clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And
let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one
body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the
message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel
each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever
you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
through him to God the Father.

3. Instructions for Christian Households, Verses 18-25, DESTINY
18 Wives,
submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. 19 Husbands,
love your wives and never treat them harshly. 20 Children,
always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do
not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged. 22 Slaves,
obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the
time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your
reverent fear of the Lord. 23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though
you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember
that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master
you are serving is Christ.[e] 25 But if you do
what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has
no favorites.

Heavenly Father, help me to keep the eyes of my heart on Jesus and the glorious eternal inheritance that You have reserved for me and all who have trusted Jesus as Saviour. Thank You that my life is hid with Christ in You. As I die to self and live for Christ, may my life reflect Your love, gentleness, compassion, and truth. Thank You for the blessed hope that is set before all those who trust in Christ Jesus as Saviour. Thank You that Christ is my life, and the day is coming when He will return to take me home to be with Him in heaven. O what a wonderful day that will be when, in my glorified body, I will see my Saviour face to face. In Jesus' name, we pray AMEN.

Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. (Colossians 3:10-11)
Heavenly Father, thank You that I am a new creation in Christ. Thank You that old things are done away with and all things have been made new in Him. I pray that I might walk in spirit and truth, submitting to the working of the Holy Spirit so that, day by day, I come to know You more and love You better. thank You for the truth of Your Word. Thank You that old things have passed away and all things have become new in Christ. Thank You that I have been transferred from the kingdom of Satan into the kingdom of Your dear Son, by faith in Him. Thank You that the old, cursed creation has been replaced by a new, perfect creation in Christ and that by faith in Him, I have been transferred from the old creation to the new and am being renewed daily, spirit, soul, and body, until I stand face to face with Jesus, my Rock and my Redeemer. May I live my new life in spirit and truth to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. (Colossians 3:13-15)
Heavenly Father, thank You that I have been forgiven of all my sins and declared to be righteous, by faith in Your dearly beloved Son. I have not always been ready to forgive those that have hurt or injured me, but thank You for freely forgiving me of my sin unconditionally and forever. May I increasingly show forbearance and forgiveness towards my fellow man and readily pardon all who have hurt or harmed me. Develop in me a spirit of gentleness that shows the love of Christ to all with whom I come in contact, and may my life become a reflection of the beautiful love of Christ, Who died so that all who believe in Him might live. Praise Your holy name for all Your goodness and grace towards the children of men. In Jesus' name I pray, AMEN.
