ELNORA’S BIBLE STUDY WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS, 1Thessalonians 3, Saturday, January 24, 2026
Context for Chapter 3
Chapter 3 concludes
Paul's comments about the condition of the Thessalonian church. These began in
chapter 1 and were given more details in chapters 2 and 3. Here, Paul expresses
his joy that the Thessalonians are enduring persecution faithfully, and he prays
that they will continue to grow. In the following chapters, Paul will address
some of the concerns plaguing the Thessalonians, including their worries about
the end-times.

1. Encouragement of Timothy’s Visit, Part 1, Verses 1-6, JEANNIE
Finally, when we could stand it no longer, we decided to stay alone in
Athens, 2 and we sent Timothy to visit you. He is our brother and
God’s co-worker[a] in
proclaiming the Good News of Christ. We sent him to strengthen you, to
encourage you in your faith, 3 and to keep you from being shaken by
the troubles you were going through. But you know that we are destined for such
troubles. 4 Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles
would soon come—and they did, as you well know. 5 That is why, when I
could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was
still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that
our work had been useless. 6 But now Timothy has just returned, bringing
us good news about your faith and love. He reports that you always remember our
visit with joy and that you want to see us as much as we want to see you.

2. Encouragement of Timothy’s Visit, Part 2 Verses 7-13, DESTINY
7 So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and
suffering, dear brothers and sisters,[b] because you have remained strong in your faith. 8 It
gives us new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. 9 How
we thank God for you! Because of you we have great joy as we enter God’s
presence. 10 Night
and day we pray earnestly for you, asking God to let us see you again to fill
the gaps in your faith. 11 May God our Father and our Lord Jesus bring us to you very soon. 12 And
may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and
overflow, just as our love for you overflows. 13 May
he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand
before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people.
Amen.

Confessions for 1Thessalonians, Chapter 3
12 And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow
and overflow, just as our love for you overflows. (1Thessalonians 3:12)
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Scriptures. Thank You for the truths
they contain and the lessons I can learn from them. Guide me into all truth and
help me to abound in love toward my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help
me to be proactive in my prayers, established in the faith, and faithful
in interceding for all the Body of Christ. May I ever hope in the Lord and look
for His any day return, when He comes to take us to be with Himself. In Jesus'
name, AMEN.
13 May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you
stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy
people. Amen. (1Thessalonians 3:13)
Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for the great encouragement,
strength, and instruction we receive from the letters of Paul to the church at
Thessalonica. Thank You for giving us Your Word. I pray that You would
teach me through Your Word, and train me how to grow in grace, to live by
faith, and to pray in the spirit. Help me to stand firm in the faith, and
may my heart continue to be established in the truth of the gospel of Christ so
that I may stand blameless before You in holiness and virtue, at the coming of
our Savior, Jesus Christ, with all His holy saints. I ask this in His holy
name, AMEN.
