Context for Chapter 6

The book of 1 Timothy is full of very practical advice, from Timothy's mentor, the apostle Paul. Chapter 6 rounds out the instructions given in the first five chapters. Building on the ideas laid down earlier in the letter, Paul reminds Timothy of the importance of godly living and avoiding the snares of evil and temptation. This chapter provides a strong encouragement for Timothy to apply the wisdom of this letter, both in his personal life and in the churches he is leading.                                                     Source: https://www.bibleref.com/1-Timothy/6/1-Timothy-chapter-6.html

False Teaching &True RichesPart 1, Verses 3-10, TBD

3 Some people may contradict our teaching, but these are the wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings promote a godly life. 4 Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions. 5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy. 6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. 7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. 8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. 9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

Paul's Final Instructions, Verses 11-21,  DESTINY

11 But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. 13 And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 15 For, At just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. 16 He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen. 17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life. 20 Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so-called knowledge. 21 Some people have wandered from the faith by following such foolishness. May God’s grace be with you all.

Prayers for 1 Timothy, Chapter 6

4 Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions. 5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy. (1 Timothy 6:4,5)

Heavenly Father, I realise how easy it is to be led astray by false doctrine and ungodly teachings, when the Word of God is not the foundation upon which my faith is anchored. Thank you that you keep me from false teachings. You protect me from the unfruitful works of darkness that delight in inconsequential disputes which lead to envy, strife, abusive language, and evil suspicions. In your presence I keep my focus on Jesus and on the Word of truth, so that I may live godly in Christ Jesus, passing from death unto life.  I am no longer in the power of the evil one, but have been brought out of the darkness of worldly values into the glorious light of Your eternal family. May my life, from this day forward, be one of godliness with contentment, for Your eternal praise and glory. This I pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.

9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:9-10)

Father, thank You for Your amazing plan of redemption, and that by grace I have been given an eternal inheritance that will not fade away. I praise You that in Christ I have all I need for life and godliness, and that I been clothed with His own righteousness. There are many things that can displace the Lord Jesus from His rightful position in my heart, and the love of money is one that I know can cause much distress and destruction when it is not correctly bridled under the authority of Christ. Help me to use the money that I have wisely, and help me to always regard money and my possessions as my servant and not my master. Take my life, together with all that I own for Your greater glory, and let it be consecrated to You, from this day forward and forevermore. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12)

Loving Father, I want to fight the good fight of faith, knowing that the victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil, has already been won by Christ. May I face the challenges of my life in Your strength and to Your glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Amen.  (1 Timothy 6:15-16)

Heavenly Father, how I praise and thank You for Your grace, Your goodness, and Your unapproachable wisdom in revealing and sending the Lord Jesus Christ to be our God and Saviour. He is the Almighty God, the King of kings and the Lord of lords! Thank You that by faith in Him we are clothed in His righteousness and made "sons" of the eternal God - to Whom be all honour and glory in the eternal dominion, AMEN.
