ELNORA’S BIBLE STUDY WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS,1Timothy 2, Saturday, May 23, 2026
Context for Chapter 2
In chapter 1, Paul charged Timothy to hold fast against false teaching. In chapter 2, Paul begins to lay out the practical steps a church needs to take in order to prevent false doctrine from taking over. This begins with prayer, including prayers for leaders outside the church, so Christians can be left in peace. Paul also explains the separation between the roles of men and women in worship services, which should be read in the context of his comments in chapter 3. {Summarize this reference.}

Greetings & Warnings Against False Teachings, Verses 1-8, TEANNIE
I urge you, first of all,
to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and
give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in
authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and
dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who
wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For,
There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man
Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for
everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right
time. 7 And I have been chosen as a preacher and
apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not
exaggerating—just telling the truth. 8 In every
place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free
from anger and controversy.

Paul's Gratitude for God's Mercy, Verses 9-15, DESTINY
9 And I
want women to be modest in their appearance.[a] They should wear
decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way
they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who
claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things
they do. 11 Women should learn quietly and
submissively. 12 I do not let women teach men or
have authority over them.[b] Let them listen
quietly. 13 For God made Adam first, and afterward he
made Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived by
Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. 15 But
women will be saved through childbearing,[c] assuming they
continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

Prayers for 1 Timothy, Chapter 2
2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:2)
Lord God and Heavenly King, You alone are the Lord of the earth and King of the universe, and You alone can revive and restore the United States Of America and bring us back under Your own Sovereign rule. Give our President, together with his advisors and the whole of his administration, the wisdom and grace to turn from the ungodly path that they are following, and may they set this nation back on the path of trusting in God. Motivate all our congressmen to strive for integrity and wisdom in all the choices and decisions they make, and may those that are entrusted as judges and lawmakers, likewise act in righteousness, impartiality and integrity as they work for the benefit of all people, and to the honour of Your holy name. Heavenly King, we place our nation at your feet, and pray that we may once again serve You as a nation. May Your will be done in the once greatest nation of the world, the United States of America.
3This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 2:3-5)
Heavenly Father, thank You for the wise instruction Paul gave to Timothy on the importance and effectiveness of prayer. Help me to pray at all times and to intercede for all men, in spirit, in truth, and without ceasing. Help me to be alert to the rising prayer needs in my own life and the needs of people around the world. Give me a heart to intercede for all men everywhere, for kings, princes, presidents, and leaders, in both the political and spiritual realm. Thank You, Lord, that You are a God Who hears and answers the prayers of the righteous. Loving Father, thank You for making salvation so simple. Your amazing gift of salvation, which is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, the only Mediator between God and man. I pray that many will come to a saving faith in You today. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance.[a] They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Heavenly Father, search my heart, that my being may be pleasing in your sight. As I pray and lift up holy hands to You, I pray that, more and more, I become the person You desire me to be. Heavenly Father, thank You for the many instructions on godly living we receive in Your Word. I pray that I may grow in grace and conduct myself in a manner that honours Your name. Keep me from drawing attention to myself inappropriately. May my inner thoughts be pure and holy, and my outer clothing bring honour to Your name. I pray that all I say and do is always acceptable in Your sight. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. (1 Timothy 2:10)
Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful way that You have ordained the roles and responsibilities of Christian men and women to complement one another and to reflect the relationship between Christ and the Church. May I seek to behave in a manner that honours You, both at home and in the wider community. May my life and behaviour complement the brothers and sisters in my own church community. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
