1. Paul's Greeting & Titus' Work, Part 1, Verses 1-9, ELIVIA
1 This letter is from Paul, a slave
of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to[a] those God has chosen and to teach them to
know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives. 2 This
truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not
lie—promised them before the world began. 3 And now at
just the right time he has revealed this message, which we announce to
everyone. It is by the command of God our Savior that I have been entrusted
with this work for him. 4 I am writing to Titus, my true
son in the faith that we share. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior
give you grace and peace. 5 I left you on the island of
Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I
instructed you. 6 An elder must live a blameless life.
He must be faithful to his wife,[b] and his children must be believers who
don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. 7 A
church leader[c] is a manager of God’s household, so he must
live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not
be a heavy drinker,[d] violent, or dishonest with money. 8 Rather,
he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must
live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life. 9 He
must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he
will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who
oppose it where they are wrong.

2. Titus' Work, Part 2, Verses 10-16, DESTINY
10 For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation. 11 They must be silenced, because they are turning whole families away from the truth by their false teaching. And they do it only for money. 12 Even one of their own men, a prophet from Crete, has said about them, “The people of Crete are all liars, cruel animals, and lazy gluttons.”[e] 13 This is true. So reprimand them sternly to make them strong in the faith. 14 They must stop listening to Jewish myths and the commands of people who have turned away from the truth. 15 Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted. 16 Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are detestable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good.

Prayers for Titus, Chapter 1
1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to[a] those God has chosen and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives. (Titus 1:1)
Heavenly
Father, thank You for Your Word and for calling me into Your family, through
faith in Christ. Help me to take heed of all that You would teach me, and
use me, I pray, to point the lost to Christ and to encourage those that are
saved by grace. Thank You that we have been equipped with knowledge of the
truth, which is according to godliness. Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
2 This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began. (Titus 1:2)
Heavenly Father, thank You that eternal life is not only a sure hope for the future, but is already my present possession today. Thank You for Your promise of eternal life to all who have trusted Christ as Saviour. And thank You that Your Word is true, and Your promises stand fast forever and ever. I pray that as Your ambassador on earth, I may live as a worthy citizen of heaven, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
4 I am writing to Titus, my true son in the faith that we share. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior give you grace and peace. (Titus 1:4)
Heavenly
Father, thank You for Paul's letter to Titus and the wealth of information it
contains, not only in the selection of church elders, but in the roles and
responsibilities we all have in our homes and abroad. Thank You for the grace,
mercy, and peace You give to me every day. Thank You that when friends and
loved ones are far away, we not only have peace with God because of our great
salvation, but we have the peace of God residing in our hearts, when our mind
is focussed on Jesus. No matter where I am, You are with me to encourage and
guide me. Help me live a godly life, both in my home and in my wider community,
for Your praise and glory. This I ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
10 For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation. 11 They must be silenced, because they are turning whole families away from the truth by their false teaching. And they do it only for money. 12 Even one of their own men, a prophet from Crete, has said about them, “The people of Crete are all liars, cruel animals, and lazy gluttons.”[e](Titus 1:10-12)
Heavenly Father, I pray that my heart would be ever open to Your truth and that I am not influenced by any erroneous, legalistic lectures or vain prosperity teachings, but stand fast in the faith. Thank You that Christ’s sacrifice is sufficient and that my salvation does not rest on what I have to do, but on what Christ has done for me on Calvary's Cross. I am so thankful that by shedding His blood for my sins and by rising again from the dead, He paid it all so that by faith in Him, I might have the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. Heavenly Father, keep me grounded in Your Word and securely founded on the truth of the glorious gospel of Christ. Give me wisdom to discern false teachings, and help me to remain anchored to the Word of truth. Protect me from those that would subvert the gospel of Christ, and may I grow up in all aspects of the faith. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
